About The Role
Are you passionate about sustainable development and community empowerment? NPL is seeking a
Community Investment Manager to lead our community investment programs at the Porgera Mine in Papua New Guinea. This is a key leadership role that will drive meaningful and lasting change in the local community, aligning with NPLs sustainability goals and strategic objectives.
As the Community Investment Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and implementing community development initiatives that promote sustainable economic growth, enhance the standard of living, and create lasting benefits for local communities. This role will require you to manage a diverse portfolio of programs in Business Development, Community Development, and Economic Programs, with a focus on improving education, food security, water and healthcare, and economic development.
You’ll work closely with local stakeholders, government agencies, and local leaders to build partnerships, set ambitious goals aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and deliver community investment programs that create long-term value for all.
In this role, you will;
- Lead Community Development Committees (CDCs): Establish, support, and manage CDCs, ensuring they are composed of diverse local stakeholders, including community leaders, women, youth, and Indigenous representatives. Promote inclusive decision-making and collaboration.
- Deliver Community Investment Plan: Lead the development and implementation of the Community Investment Plan, focusing on improving the standard of living and ensuring tangible local benefits from community initiatives.
- Strategic Partnerships & Scaling Impact: Identify and leverage opportunities for partnerships that enhance the scale and impact of community programs, both locally and regionally.
- Ensure Alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Set and monitor community investment targets aligned with SDGs, ensuring that all initiatives contribute to global sustainability objectives while benefiting local communities.
- Focus on Key Pillars: Oversee and drive initiatives in five key areas: Education, Food Security, Water & Environment, Healthcare, and Economic Development. Ensure that these programs meet local needs and align with company objectives.
- Local Economic Development: Promote local workforce development and ensure that community investment programs lead to sustainable economic opportunities, local business growth, and job creation.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with local Indigenous leaders, government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders. Foster an environment of transparency, collaboration, and mutual respect.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Set clear targets, track performance, and report on the outcomes of community investment programs to ensure accountability and measurable impact.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Community Development, Economics, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in community investment, business development, or a similar role.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience leading teams and working cross-functionally to deliver impactful community development programs.
- Sustainability Expertise: Strong understanding of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), local workforce development, and community engagement principles.
- Program Management: Experience in managing large-scale community programs and ensuring the achievement of strategic objectives.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated ability to engage and build strong relationships with local Indigenous communities, government bodies, and other stakeholders.
- Partnership Building: Strong skills in building partnerships with local, national, and international stakeholders to scale initiatives, enhance impact, and create long-term value for communities and businesses.
Mobilization Requirement
This is a PNG National Staff position, a site based role on a Fly in Fly out arrangement with rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage) and have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
