About the Job:
Rochester is looking for a Senior Exploration Geologist. Under the supervision of the Exploration Manager, the position will be responsible for the design and execution of exploration programs, including but not limited to, mapping, soil sampling, drill programs, core logging, managing field logistics, collection of geological data, and evaluation of results on a daily basis in a safe and cost-effective manner; include the implementation and supervising of exploration programs, the mentorship and leadership of technical staff, as well as the compilation and analysis of various datasets
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all activities of the Exploration Geology Department comply and are consistent with all Environmental, Health and Safety policies and practices;
- Be able to maintain compliance with relevant Mine Health and Safety Administration (MSHA) rules and regulations;
- Lead and participate in exploration program planning to ensure that programs are designed considering alternative options, costs, target rankings, and are in line with Life of Mine strategy;
- Participate in reducing overall exploration costs through effective management, cost tracking, option analysis, minimizing delay times, control of consumables etc.;
- Accountable for quality and accuracy of all geologic data;
- Develop regional and deposit-scale geological models as exploration progresses (lithology, structure, alteration, and mineralization); Ensure lithological and structure wireframes / models are continually updated with new data;
- Ensure exploration targets are reviewed / updated, ranked and staged programs defined and scheduled;
- Ensure drilling programs are executed in an optimal and safe manner. Liaise with the drilling contractor regarding drilling quality and production;
- Communicate drilling progress and results to management in a timely fashion. Create and provide graphics for reporting and presentations;
- Commitment to drive KPI elements and assist others in meeting objectives;
- Responsible for delivery of annual ounce targets;
- Evaluate sections maps and plans for the drill programs;
- Effectively work across multi-functional lines and ensure a high degree of interaction with other leaders (removing silos between teams);
- Be proactive in approaching and building teamwork with Department Team Members;
- Lead and mentor technical and non-technical staff; Oversee career development and performance management duties of technical staff;
- Implement and contribute to a safe and productive team environment;
- Assist the Exploration Manager with all reporting requirements to government and other stakeholders to be concise, effective & delivered on schedule;
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- A bachelor’s degree in Geology; a post-graduate degree, specializing in exploration or mineral deposits is considered an asset;
- Minimum 7-10 years experience in mineral exploration. Previous experience in the Great Basin Province is desirable;
- Experience developing geological models at both the deposit- and regional-belt scales;
- Ability to draft and interpret cross sections and level plans to constrain 3D geologic models;
- Experience in the fundamentals of exploration: mapping (field and pit), litho sampling, soil sampling, drilling and logging (RC / DDH);
- Solid knowledge and expertise in exploring for precious metal deposits with an emphasis on Au-Ag Epithermal deposits in volcanic rocks;
- An excellent understanding of geological settings, deposit models, and ore-forming processes as it pertains to the latest concepts of gold/silver depositional environments;
- A demonstrated commitment to safety, environment, and community;
- Experience in the design and management of soil geochemistry and drilling programs;
- Geological/geochemical/geophysical interpretative and integration skills with regional-scale target generation experience;
- Open to receiving mentorship and learning new concepts and methods to increase skillset and grow as a geologist;
- Competence in Leapfrog, ArcGIS, ioGas, acQuire, and other related software platform;
- Must possess leadership abilities, be motivated and proactive in planning work programs;
- Works well within a team and independently; ability to set priorities and complete tasks with minimal supervision;
- Strong analytical and organizational skills; high level of critical, strategic and logical thinking;
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written, listening, presentation);
- Ability to work in challenging environments with a willingness to adjust and adapt as situations demand.
