About the Job:
The Production Drill Supervisor is responsible for coordinating four rotating drilling crews with a structured approach to maximize drill efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve overall productivity, training and mentoring employees, while ensuring a safe and organized work environment. This role requires collaboration with operations, maintenance, safety teams, and management to maintain a culture of continuous improvement and adherence to mining regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee drilling operations with a focus on optimizing autonomous drill technology to meet production targets.
- Monitor drill performance, penetration rates, and hole quality
- Work closely with blasting, planning, and maintenance teams to optimize drill and blast cycles.
- Ensure proper drill pattern layout and alignment
- Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, including footage drilled, fuel consumption, and equipment utilization.
- Conduct pre-shift safety meetings, hazard assessments, and job task observations.
- Investigate and report all safety incidents, near misses, and equipment failures, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure drill blocks are constructed to design specifications and take corrective action if necessary.
- Confirm that all call-in signs and access signs are in place for safe and clear entry to drill areas.
- Supervise drill operators, providing training and coaching on best practices and operational efficiency.
- Conduct performance evaluations, identify skill gaps, and recommend development programs.
- Coordinate work schedules, assignments, and time management for the drilling crew.
- Monitor drill fleet condition and work closely with maintenance to ensure timely repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Work closely with the Mine Shifter and Drill Blast engineer to minimize drill delays, control fragmentation and ensure smooth operations.
- Provide feedback to drill operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to address any issues proactively
- Follow 5S housekeeping protocols to improve safety and efficiency.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum of five (5) years progressive experience within the mining industry required with supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficiency in using mine planning software and fleet management systems is a plus
- A good understanding of operations and the ability to instill good operational work practices, and training programs in their team.
- Proven experience in safety training and knowledge of MSHA regulations.
- Must be willing to work at a mine site, including surface operations, with exposure to heavy equipment and operational noise.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and dust.
- Physically capable of climbing on and off drilling equipment, working at heights, and standing for extended periods.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. when required.
- Willing to work long shifts, including nights, weekends, and rotating schedules as needed.
- Prolonged standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
- A genuine interest in people and people development, someone who can authentically communicate and bring out the best in people.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Familiarity with business software applications such as Oracle required.
- Demonstrated ability to perform essential function of the position.
