About the Role

Reporting to Asset Management Manager, this highly influential role is part of BHP's state-of-the-art Maintenance and Engineering Centre of Excellence (MECoE).

As part of the global process safety engineering team, this role provides support and expertise to Minerals America's assets to support their implementation of global process safety requirements and to promote continuous improvement in Process Safety Management.

This position will be based in Santiago and offers exceptional flexibility. Some planned domestic and international travel, including site visits, will be required.

You will be part of a team that manages and leads global standardization initiatives to enable improved business results in Process Safety Engineering through:

Support Minerals America assets in the implementation of the global process safety framework.
Support the continued development of global Process Safety Management standards, procedures and guidelines.
Provide engineering governance of Process Safety Management across BHP through relevant Process Safety Key Risk indicators, business KPIs and performance dashboards.
Support the delivery and implementation of effective assurance processes through Process Safety Standards across the lifecycle of facilities applicable to BHP process safety.
Ensure process safety risks are identified, assessed and managed in accordance with Corporate GLDs and MECoE Systems and Procedures.
Act as the interface between Operations, HSE, MECoE and the PCoE on broader aspects of Process Safety Management at Minerals America.
Integrate with the process safety engineering community across the organization while overseeing process safety engineering and technical capability building.
Provide subject matter expertise, mentoring and support for technical investigations of process safety events.
Promote sharing and learning culture to enhance organizational understanding of process safety
Develop and maintain strong and mutually beneficial relationships with a broad group of stakeholde

About You

Advanced degree in Engineering or related discipline
Process safety engineering experience in the petrochemical, petroleum or mining industry.
Experience in mining operations with exposure to containment loss risk management/process safety management, including auditing and assurance.
Knowledge of key process safety management standards and their elements.
Knowledge and experience to apply risk management techniques, tools, software / simulation models to support correct decisions for any process safety risk exposure.
Ability to review and challenge process safety studies, including HAZOP, PHA and dispersion models, and to facilitate hazard identification and risk assessment workshops.
Strong analytical skills as well as ability to apply judgment based on analysis of factual and qualitative information in complicated or novel situations.
Strong influencing skills and confidence to positively challenge the status quo.
Adaptability to change and ability to prioritize and multi-task.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse stakeholders in complex environments and delivering change on a global scale.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach engineers and operational staff.
Proficient in oral and written English and Spanish
