The Regional Manager – Engineering Studies Management will play a critical role in ensuring engineering excellence across all projects in the South America portfolio, including selected major projects and Joint Ventures. This role is responsible for driving engineering standardization, optimization, value engineering, and design scrubbing initiatives in alignment with Glencore’s Capital Management Framework (CMF). As part of the South America Capital Projects team, this role will support project progression across stage gates, lead technical reviews, and promote innovative and cost-effective engineering practices to improve project delivery. This position reports directly to the General Manager – Regional Capital Projects.
In this role you will be responsible for:
Providing technical leadership for engineering design and studies:
- Oversee engineering design management and provide expert guidance to project teams.
- Lead design reviews, trade-off assessments, and engineering assurance processes.
- Ensure engineering inputs align with CMF requirements and stage-gate processes.
Standardizing and optimizing project design practices:
- Drive standardization, modularization, and use of technologies (e.g., 3D CAD, BIM).
- Implement and update engineering methodologies, including value engineering.
- Facilitate project scrubbing and optimization processes to maximize project NPV and capital efficiency.
Leading assurance and review processes:
- Participate in or lead Independent Peer Reviews (IPRs), Mid-Flight Reviews (MFRs) and Post Investment Reviews (PIRs).
- Provide technical recommendations and analysis for Investment Committee decisions.
- Document and communicate lessons learned across the region.
Collaborating across functions and disciplines:
- Engage with stakeholders including Asset GMs, Procurement, Finance, and Technical Services.
- Ensure cross-functional technical inputs are integrated into project designs.
- Support alignment between internal teams and external service providers.
Building regional capabilities and fostering innovation:
- Develop and share engineering best practices with project teams across the region.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, sustainability, and learning.
- Support training and mentoring for internal and external engineering teams.
About your profile:
- 15+ years of experience in engineering management in mining or industrial projects, in owner or EPC/EPCM roles.
- Degree in Engineering. Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional license.
- Specialization in Project Management (preferred).
- Advanced knowledge of engineering systems, calculations, codes, and 2D/3D design software (including BIM).
- Strong problem-solving, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent leadership and communication abilities across all levels.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
Certifications and additional knowledge (Preferred):
- Experience with technical assurance and investment gate processes.
- Familiarity with CMF or equivalent capital governance frameworks.
- Understanding of financial and commercial concepts related to engineering design.
