Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

About The Role

Position Reports To: Superintendent
Role Summary
The General Supervisor- Development and Production is responsible for the overall management of people, safety, partnerships, and production associated with the Mine Department. This position will direct tactical and strategic mining plans ensuring that departmental performance is executed in a safe and efficient manner. As a member of the Management Team, this role participates in the development and delivery of the site’s strategic business plan.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Actively advocate for health and safety by identifying, reporting, and addressing risks.
- Consistently wear PPE in all development environments.
- Remain vigilant, observe, and report safety incidents; support investigative efforts when needed.
- Ensure that all employees and respective work areas comply with New Gold’s health and safety policies as well as the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Participate in daily pre-start safety meetings.
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Task Procedures.
- Complete all required safety training and certifications in accordance with site and departmental procedures.
Work Execution
- Provide direct, front-line guidance to the Shift Supervisor and mine department.
- Demonstrate the ability to motivate teams and initiate positive changes impacting safety, production, and cost management in the Mine department.
- Exhibit highly effective communication, organization, detailed planning, and execution skills.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external partners of the Mine department.
- Show flexibility and adaptability in response to evolving business needs.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to identifying and implementing efficiency and productivity improvements.
- Maintain mid-level proficiency in computer literacy.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and mutual respect within the workforce and supervisory teams.
- Communicate effectively with employees on relevant issues, ensuring open, two-way communication.
- Manage key components within New Gold’s management systems, such as INX and SAP.
- Promote and adhere to New Gold’s Environmental, Sustainability, and Human Resources policies.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives across operations.
Work Responsibilities
- Ensure the underground mine operations comply with company, federal, provincial, and municipal standards.
- Participate in strategic planning at the mid-management level.
- Develop and achieve safety, production, and cost targets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and execute midterm mine plans.
- Enhance operational assets and resources through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead the development and implementation of mine policies and procedures.
- Drive the improvement of safety performance for all employees.
- Support and uphold a value-based Safety Management System, focusing on continuous hazard identification, risk management, compliance monitoring, and employee engagement.
- Address Joint Health and Safety (JHAS) and employee safety concerns in a timely and thorough manner.
- Ensure employees have access to the tools and systems necessary for safe and efficient work.
- Develop employees to maximize their potential and align with organizational goals.
- Implement succession plans for key roles.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and mutual respect among employees and supervisors.
- Maintain open communication channels to keep employees informed on relevant matters.
- Provide direct supervision to Mine Shift Supervisors.
People
- Treat colleagues, business partners, and other stakeholders with respect at all times.

Qualifications & Experience
- Supervisory Experience: Minimum of 3+ years at a Shift Supervisor level, with progressive supervisory experience.
- Mining Experience: 10-15 years in underground mining, with a strong preference for candidates with progressive experience.
- Computer Literacy: Proficient in computer applications relevant to the mining industry.
- Certifications: Safety certifications or other relevant training considered an asset.
Skills & Abilities
- Leadership & Communication: Proven leadership competencies with exceptional communication skills.
- Mining Legislation: Solid understanding of the Mining Act and relevant legislation.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of legislation and regulations for mines and mining plants.
- Influence & Inspiration: Ability to inspire others, manage cross-functional relationships, and influence teams toward shared goals.
