Position Description
The
UG Systems Specialist is the regional lead responsible for Underground maintenance systems, SAP governance, master data management, systems integration, digital maintenance platforms, and maintenance reporting across
Barrick AME Underground operations.
The role ensures
SAP S4/HANA remains the primary maintenance system of record while supporting integration of complementary systems required for Underground reliability, automation, telemetry, budgeting, planning, and operational decision making.

Responsibilities
- Lead implementation and ongoing optimisation of the AME Underground HME maintenance systems ecosystem.
- Ensure SAP S4/HANA remains the primary system of record for:
- Work management
- Maintenance execution
- Cost capture
- Compliance
- Maintenance history
- Equipment and component lifecycle management
- Master data governance
- Maximise utilisation of existing SAP S4/HANA functionality across Underground operations, including:
- Phase Model workflows
- Fiori applications
- Scheduling functionality
- Mobile integration
- Maintenance analytics
- Component tracking
- Govern approved integrations between SAP and Barrick-approved complementary maintenance, telemetry, and asset health platforms.
- Own regional maintenance systems integration architecture, master data governance, and maintenance data strategy.
- Ensure maintenance systems support accurate, standardised, and reliable operational decision making across Underground HME operations.
- Govern bidirectional data flows between SAP and approved complementary systems.
- Support integration of automation, telemetry, and operational data into the maintenance systems ecosystem.
- Support integration of reliability and condition-monitoring data into SAP and approved complementary platforms.
- Lead regional review and evaluation of proposed maintenance systems enhancements and complementary technologies to ensure:
- Business value

- Use structured data analysis and ETL techniques to identify system gaps, improve data quality, support maintenance planning, and improve decision making.
- Influence and support site systems teams to improve:
- Master data integrity
- Work order discipline
- Failure code accuracy
- Equipment hierarchy quality
- Maintenance plan quality
- System utilisation
- Provide coaching, training, and mentoring on SAP PM, SAP S4/HANA workflows, Phase Model execution, maintenance data quality, and approved complementary platforms.
- Collaborate with UG Asset Health and UG Automation & Electrification teams to ensure aligned systems integration and maintenance data governance.
- Collaborate with Open Cut and global master data governance teams to align standards across the broader AME organisation.
- Manage approved third-party systems vendors and integration partners.
- Provide reporting to regional leadership relating to:
- System adoption
- Data quality
- Integration performance
- Risks and issues
- ROI and business improvement outcomes
- Ensure all maintenance systems activities comply with Barrick standards, cybersecurity requirements, data governance standards, and site operational requirements.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Maintenance Management, Business Systems, or related field.
- Certification in a leading CMMS or asset management platform is highly desirable.
- SAP Plant Maintenance proficiency is desirable.
- Formal SAP PM or SAP S4/HANA certification is an advantage.
- Advanced certification in asset management, reliability, or maintenance management is preferred.
- CMRP or equivalent certification is preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 8–15 years’ experience in maintenance systems, CMMS implementation, asset management systems, or digital maintenance transformation.
- Experience must include large-scale underground mining or heavy industrial operations.
- Multi-site or regional support experience is strongly preferred.
- Deep hands-on experience implementing, configuring, and governing complementary CMMS or asset management platforms.
- Experience with systems supporting:
- Lifecycle costing.
- Long-term planning.
- Master data governance.
- Condition data integration.
- Maintenance analytics.
- Reliability reporting.
- Solid working knowledge of SAP S4/HANA Plant Maintenance.
- Experience with:
- Work order management.
- Maintenance master data.

- Fiori applications.
- Demonstrated experience integrating CMMS, automation, telemetry, condition monitoring, and ERP systems.

- Experience managing third-party systems vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and build capability across dispersed, multi-site organisations without direct line authority.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements
- Deep knowledge of maintenance systems and asset management platforms used in mining or heavy industry.
- Strong SAP S4/HANA Plant Maintenance knowledge.
- Ability to maximise current SAP functionality before introducing complementary tools.
- Strong understanding of Underground HME maintenance work management principles.
- Strong understanding of the Barrick Maintenance Work Management Procedure.
- Strong knowledge of master data governance, including:
- Equipment structures.
- Functional locations.
- Maintenance plans.
- Task lists.
- Bills of material.
- Failure codes.
- Component life counters.
- Cost structures.
- Ability to govern certified API integration between SAP and Barrick-approved complementary systems.
- Ability to integrate automation and telemetry data from the UG Automation & Electrification domain into the maintenance systems ecosystem.
- Ability to integrate condition monitoring data into SAP and approved platforms.
- Strong business analysis skills, including:
