Position Description
The
Underground Asset Health Specialist is the regional lead responsible for Underground HME reliability, predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, and asset health performance across
Barrick AME Underground operations.
The role drives reliability improvement strategies and asset health programmes that support breakdown reduction, component life optimisation, maintenance quality improvement, and operational performance across Underground fleets.

Responsibilities
- Develop and drive the regional Underground reliability and asset health strategy.
- Lead reliability improvement initiatives across Underground HME operations.
- Govern and standardise:
- Condition monitoring programmes
- Predictive maintenance processes
- Defect elimination programmes
- Failure analysis methodologies
- Reliability reporting standards
- Lead condition-based maintenance and reliability-centred maintenance initiatives across Underground fleets.
- Monitor and analyse Underground HME asset health and reliability performance.
- Integrate and analyse:
- Oil analysis data
- OEM telematics
- Vibration analysis
- Thermography
- Electrical condition monitoring
- Machine telemetry
- Inspection data
- Operational performance data
- Convert asset health and reliability insights into prioritised maintenance actions and operational work plans.
- Drive reduction of:
- Repeat failures
- Breakdown events
- Maintenance-related losses
- Component failures
- Support optimisation of:
- Component life
- Maintenance quality
- Rebuild quality
- Contamination control
- Tyre health performance
- Support operational readiness and reliability planning for new Underground projects and fleet deployments.
- Collaborate with Systems and Automation teams to support:
- Predictive maintenance capability
- Asset health reporting
- Maintenance analytics
- Reliability data integration
- Develop and deliver reliability training and capability development programmes.
- Support site maintenance teams with:
- Failure analysis
- Reliability reviews
- Defect elimination
- Maintenance optimisation
- Monitor reliability KPIs and provide reporting, escalation, and improvement recommendations to regional leadership.
- Support lifecycle planning and maintenance budget forecasting through reliability analysis.
- Ensure all asset health and reliability activities comply with:
- Barrick standards
- Maintenance governance requirements
- Safety requirements
- Site operational requirements
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Reliability Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or related field preferred
- Professional certification in reliability engineering or asset management is strongly preferred.
- Certifications may include:
- CMRP.
- CRE.
- Equivalent reliability or asset management qualifications.
- Professional registration with a relevant engineering body is beneficial.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in reliability engineering, condition monitoring, or asset health management within large-scale underground mining operations.
- Strong HME reliability experience across multiple sites is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing and driving reliability improvement roadmaps and asset health strategies.
- Proven experience implementing:
- Reliability standards.
- Defect elimination programmes.
- Condition-based maintenance strategies.
- Predictive maintenance programmes.
- Reliability reporting systems.
- Demonstrated experience driving SAP utilisation for:
- Asset health tracking.
- Failure analysis.
- Condition monitoring workflows.
- Reliability reporting.
- Demonstrated experience with complementary reliability and predictive maintenance platforms.
- Experience supporting:
- OEM-agnostic condition monitoring.
- Predictive failure identification.
- Automated notification workflows.
- Reliability analytics.
- Demonstrated experience influencing site reliability teams across multiple locations without direct line authority.
- Experience delivering reliability training and building site reliability capability.
- Experience supporting workshop reliability improvement and rebuild quality initiatives is advantageous.
- Experience working with OEMs, condition monitoring vendors, and technical service providers is advantageous.

- Ability to maximise SAP’s current reliability and asset health functionality.
- Ability to support implementation and operational governance of Barrick-approved complementary reliability platforms.
- Ability to leverage automation telemetry and machine data for predictive reliability outcomes.
- Strong analytical capability for:
- Failure analysis.
- Trend analysis.
- Breakdown analysis.
- Financial quantification of avoided failures.
- Reliability performance tracking.
- Strong reporting and analytics capability.
- Proficient in Power BI or equivalent reporting platforms.
- Excellent influencing, coaching, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to hold site teams accountable across dispersed locations without direct line authority.
