Position Description
As a member of the Mine Planning team, the successful candidate will report to the Senior Production Engineer and work a rotational roster of 14:14, 12 hours shifts. This role will require an individual who is safety driven and safety conscious, and capable of working with a diverse team of technical services staff, underground operations personnel, production geologists, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will need to be highly motivated and have a proven commitment to workplace safety and leadership. They will have the opportunity to gain experience, and grow their career in the following areas:
- Production planning (drill, blast, backfill)
- Ventilation
- Survey
- Projects
- Ground Control
- Short-term and mid-term scheduling
- Development planning
Key Accountabilities Regardless Of Work Area Are As Follows
- Proven commitment to workplace safety.
- Ensure effectiveness and safe productivity of the mine.
- Work collaboratively with mine production and geology departments and assist other functional areas to achieve their objectives.
- Facilitate conceptual meetings for mine design.
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure practicality of designs.
- Optimize ore recovery through safe and efficient mining.
- Develop a good understanding of the underground operating conditions, in order to provide safe and reasonable recommendations regarding mine planning inputs.
- Visit underground active mining areas on a regular basis.
- Assist with updating mine planning standards and procedures.
- Assist with special projects that arise as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of engineering in Mining. Mine Technologist or equivalent will also be considered.
- Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer or equivalent.
- Experience in an underground mining environment is an asset.
- Experience with Deswik mining software is an asset.
- Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to walk significant grades underground and lift 50 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong communication, computing, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment with geology, engineering and production personnel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Organized, motivated self-starter with high standards expected of themselves and others.
- Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced mine production environment.

About The Team
Hemlo has produced more than 21 million ounces of gold and has been operating continuously for more than 30 years. It consists of the Williams mine operation, including an underground mine, and 4mtpa gold processing facility. Hemlo is located about 350 kilometers east of Thunder Bay, Ontario on Highway 17.
