OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The overall purpose of the role of Geologist 3 - Exploration within the GGM Exploration Team is to provide Technical Specialist support on designing and streamlining of technical exploration drilling programs and their sequential execution in line with the GGM exploration strategy and E4V guidelines. The role will require the holder to evaluate the progress of the project or several projects assigned to him/her and their potential outcomes on supporting the LOM and will directly report to Superintendent 2-Exploration (Resource Definition & Resource Delineation Drilling).
The role holder will be part of the departmental senior management and will be fully responsible for prioritizing, planning, reviewing and monitoring of the execution of work plans as well as monitoring of cost expenditures. The role holder will provide specialist skills and knowledge to subordinates and will identify and propose the training/development needs of the team to ensure he/she promotes and maintains strong technical operational capability of the exploration team.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead cross‑functional technical reviews to challenge geological interpretations, drilling strategies, and target prioritization.
- Develop medium‑ to long‑term exploration roadmaps incorporating risk assessment, confidence levels, and resource growth expectations.
- Align project strategies with Life-of-Mine requirements, ensuring exploration work supports business continuity and future mining options.
- Oversee multi‑dataset integration (geophysics, geochemistry, structural mapping, drilling results) to refine targeting accuracy.
- Validate and approve geological models generated by junior geologists, ensuring consistency with resource estimation standards.
- Lead structural interpretation workshops to improve understanding of mineralization controls across multiple deposits.
- Evaluate drilling productivity, meter‑cost efficiency, sample quality, and rig utilization trends and implement improvements.
- Develop alternative drill‑testing strategies using step‑out logic, depth progression, or directional drilling where applicable.
- Conduct post‑drilling reviews to measure program performance against objectives and adjust strategy accordingly.
- Ensure exploration activities comply with environmental, social, community, and regulatory frameworks.
- Support community-relations teams during land access negotiations and ensure work progresses ethically and respectfully.
- Participate in environmental monitoring and ensure drill sites are rehabilitated according to standards.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor of Science in Geology / Advanced Diploma or Higher
- Understanding of the Tanzanian Mining Act 2010 as amended in 2017.
- Understanding of the International Organization for Standardization ISO45001 of 2018 and ISO14001:2015.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- A minimum of 5 to 7 years of working experience in Mineral Exploration, Open pit and Underground mining.
- Knowledge of Exploration Business Exploration Budgeting & Mining Cycle.
- Competence on computer-aided software’s such as Arc GIS, Datamine & Leapfrog.
- Competence in Microsoft office suite.
- Good knowledge of geological data analysis, interpretation and 3D geological modelling.
