About The Role
- Own process plant permit to work system and acts as the primary point of contact for mechanical and electrical isolations, ensuring all equipment is safely isolated before maintenance.
- Manages the safe de-energization and lockout-tagout (LOTO) of equipment for maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety procedures.
- Strengthen critical risk controls and operational discipline
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement aligned to operational excellence
- Drive continuous improvement in safety, productivity, and cost efficiency across all processing activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Embed safety as core value and the highest priority throughout all Operational activities including contractor activities (controlled and monitored).
- Develop fit for purpose while ensuring utilization of existing Rio Tinto Iron Ore group policies, process and procedures as a first preference.
- Develops and issues isolation permits, marks up engineering drawings, and coordinates with production and maintenance teams during shutdowns or maintenance opportunities.
- Translate safety expectations into practical, usable tools for the frontline
- Maintains inventory of LOTO materials and manages documentation for all isolation permits.
- Participates in HSE awareness by ensuring the correct SOP’s/SWP’s and or JHA’s are used and is firmly in place for all tasks.
- Ensure that key performance indicators are in place to monitor, analyses and report on the business operational performance.
- Train, and influence safe culture field implementation to build operational capability.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement aligned to operational excellence
- Liaise with Maintenance, Reliability, and Technical Services teams to ensure integrated plant performance oriented to profit margin.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related discipline.
- Certified Safety professional
- Female application is considered as highly advantageous
- Proven Experience in a high-risk operational environment
- Strong understanding of Rio Tinto RMP, C1, C2, D6 and D7 Standard.
- Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, to gather, assess, and synthesize key metrics, trends, and insights, delivering actionable reports to inform strategic decision-making.
- Current members of Rio Tinto Iron ore Product groups IOC will be advantageous
- Exposure to cross-functional and multicultural greenfield mining & operation projects preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mineral processing circuits and plant control systems.
- Familiarity with Integrated Management Systems tools and techniques (SAP, MineMarket, Aviva..).
- Proficiency in production reporting systems and MS Office Suite.
- Strong team player with ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment
- Language English required with intermediate French desirable.
- Ability to work in remote mining environments and adapt to multicultural teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
