About The Role
- Supervise stock yard and train loading operations (TLO) during the Operations Readiness phase to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate handling of ore and materials.
- Coordinate stockpile management, blending, and loading activities to meet production and quality targets.
- Implement compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards in all stock yard and TLO activities.
- Provide leadership and training to operators and technicians to build capability and promote best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise stockpile building, reclaiming, and blending activities to ensure consistent feed quality.
- Monitor stock yard equipment performance and coordinate maintenance as required.
- Maintain accurate records of material movements and stockpile inventories.
- Supervise train loading activities to ensure compliance with loading plans and weight distribution requirements.
- Coordinate with rail operations and logistics teams to optimize train turnaround times.
- Ensure accurate documentation of train loading data and reporting to relevant stakeholders.
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, PPE usage, and hazard control during stock yard and TLO operations.
- Ensure compliance with environmental standards and implement measures to minimize dust and spillage.
- Provide training and guidance to operators on safe and efficient stock yard and TLO practices.
- Mentor team members to enhance technical skills and promote continuous improvement.
What You Will Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Mining, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Certifications in bulk material handling or rail operations are an advantage.
- Any further Tertiary education will be considered advantageous
- 3-5 years of experience in stock yard management and train loading operations within mining or heavy industry.
- Documented experience operating large capacity bulk handling or heavy industrial processing plants (Car Dumping, Stacking, reclaiming, barge loading, crushing, screening, conveying, grinding, beneficiation).
- Strong understanding of HSE requirements, isolation/LOTO, confined space, working at heights, and permit-to-work systems.
- Experience in Inclusive Major Mining projects preferred.
- Proficiency in material handling systems, train loading equipment, and associated control systems.
- Strong understanding of stockpile management, blending techniques, and logistics coordination.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Language French required with desirable intermediate English.
- Ability to work in remote mining environments and travel as required.

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
