Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role
Schedule: 14 on/14 off -12-hour days
Position Reports To: Senior Mine Engineer
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to and improve procedures and practices for survey data collection
- Coordinate mine survey data collection activities and assist Drill and Blast EIT with daily activities.
- Ensure survey data is compiled into correct formats and positioning systems to the required accuracy
- Conduct spot checks and regular audits on Heavy Equipment GPS units to ensure data accuracy
- Conduct and responsible for monthly reconciliation of all ore, waste and stockpile movements
- Ensure adherence and compliance to HSE practices, policies and procedures including risk assessment
- Perform engineering and construction surveys as and when required.
- Provide supervision, direction and coaching to Mine Surveyor and ensure understanding and compliance.
- Organize survey coverage for holidays and absenteeism
- Organize servicing of survey light vehicles and routine calibration and maintenance of other survey equipment
- Maintain all surface control points for geotechnical monitoring.
- Responsible for maintaining the mine status map for accuracy and updating as required.
- Working with Drill and Blast EIT and Drill and Blast supervisor to perform tasks such as pattern design, loading instructions, timing prints, QA/QC field checks and approvals for issuing prints.
Qualifications
- Ontario Surface Common Core, Underground Common Core is a plus
- Preferably 3-5 years of experience working in an open pit mine
- Must possess effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities
- Proficient with setting up base stations, survey equipment, and completing civil survey work
- Experience with drill and blast activities as in an open pit mine
- Must be skilled in unsupervised use of RTK GPS and Total Station systems including equipment setup and problem resolution
- Experience with operating drones to capture and analyze survey data
- Experience with MineSight software or other 3D mining software is a plus.
- Possess or ability to obtain UAV advanced license.
