Your Impact
Support Newmont’s assigned operating sites/projects to develop/execute closure vision/strategy including integrated closure plans/estimates that address short/long-term business imperatives (e.g., technical, social, cost reduction, risk mitigation) aligned with goals (e.g., development, sustainability, financial).
As part of our team you will
- Support sites/projects with development and execution of closure vision and strategy and 5-year plans, aligned with Newmont’s Closure Strategy, including post mining land use, social closure criteria and alternative relinquishment approaches.
- Work with Enterprise and site/project teams to deliver integrated closure planning that addresses both short-term and long-term technical, social and business imperatives as well as cost reduction and risk mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate the development and execution of reliable site/project Life of Asset (50 year) and liability (ARO) closure cost estimates and ensure budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting requirements and timeframes are met.
- Support site/project Closure Risk and Opportunity Workshops to proactively identify opportunities and assess risks that will prevent the delivery of short- and longer-term closure plans and objectives and work with site and Enterprise teams to develop and execute mitigation plans.
- Support the site/project Concurrent Reclamation planning process and provide execution support to advance knowledge and reclaim unconstrained area as it become available in accordance with direction provided by CSC.
- Proactively support Global and site led minor closure studies, trials and pilots to advance lifecycle closure planning progression and address area available for concurrent reclamation constraints.
- Participate in / lead Closure Technical Reviews and check-ins to ensure compliance with standards and guidelines and identify risks and opportunities challenging assumptions and sharing best practices.
- Proactively provide closure SME support for LoA Planning, Projects, Due Diligence, & Divestment processes to ensure closure is considered in all operating and project decisions to support the assets’ full potential working closely with Mineral Resource Management (MRM) to evaluate holistically, including site and enterprise trade-offs related to Closure and progressive reclamation
- Support Site GM/Project Director with external stakeholder engagement for closure (e.g., communities and regulators) to achieve productive outcomes.
- Proactively engage in local and regional professional bodies (e.g., local chamber of mine, SME) to drive continuous industry improvement in closure.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
- Bachelor's degree in one or more fields related to mine closure (e.g., environmental science, natural resource management, geochemistry, water management, mine waste geotechnics, mining engineering, land use planning, etc.).
- Proficient (read/write) in both Spanish and English
- Intermediate experience across various mining disciplines including operations and planning, engineering, tailings and dams, mine water management and treatment, geochemistry, soils and covers, environment and permitting
- Intermediate experience with integrated mine closure planning and estimating.
- Familiarity and preferably experience with greenfield and mine operations in different cultural and geographical settings.
- Strong knowledge of environmental and mining regulations relevant to closure.
- Solid understanding of concurrent reclamation, social transition and environmental and community issues related to mine closure.
Your work environment
The preferred location for this role is the Denver or Miami Hub, but qualified candidates in proximity to any of our operations in LATAC or North America are encouraged to apply as remote or hybrid arrangements may be considered.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $110,160-144,585. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
