About the role
The Graduate Risk/Safety Advisor position at Evolution Mining is designed to provide practical experience in a mining environment. This role, part of the broader Sustainability Team, allows graduates to engage in a variety of activities aimed at building expertise in risk and safety management within the mining industry.
The following is a general guide to the types of roles and responsibilities the graduate may undertake:
- Source data, undertake analysis, and prepare professional documents and reports.
- Conduct fieldwork, including assurance and critical control verifications, and influence proactive safety behaviors through visible leadership.
- Participate in site and other forums to share lessons learned and deliver key risk management messages.
- Facilitate risk register reviews, risk assessments at multiple levels, and the development of critical control tools and activities as needed.
- Assist in developing plans to ensure site compliance with Evolution's policies and standards.
- Assist with incident investigations and analysis, aiming for a zero-repeat outcome.
- Participate in risk and safety initiatives to continuously improve work practices and promote positive change.
- Support the maintenance and monitoring of access, training management, and learning systems based on competency-based requirements.
The success of a graduate in this role will depend on individual effort, collaboration with supervisors, and engagement with colleagues. About you
The successful candidate will report to the Safety/Risk Superintendent and will be expected to bring a strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and certificates:
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field, demonstrating a solid foundation in the principles of safety and risk management.
- A manual driver’s license or the ability to obtain one before starting the Graduate program, ensuring mobility and flexibility on-site.
- Strong academic performance in courses related to risk management, safety, and environmental health, paired with a genuine passion for fostering a safe and supportive work environment.
- Membership with a professional organization such as the Australian Institute of Health & Safety is highly desirable, showcasing dedication to professional growth and networking in the industry.
- Any relevant certifications or training in safety systems or risk management (such as first aid, safety leadership, or incident investigation) will be a valuable asset.
These qualifications, combined with a proactive, team-oriented attitude and a commitment to making meaningful contributions to the safety culture, will set the graduate up for success in their role.
