About The Role
At Rio Tinto, a leader in the mining industry, we are seeking a Data Scientist to join our Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSES) team. This role is critical for leveraging data science and AI technologies to improve our safety protocols, environmental practices, and overall security measures.
This role is a great opportunity for an individual to be a part of a team whose motive is to achieve Rio Tinto Group vision of “Zero Harm”. Working a 5 days on, 2 off roster, you will be
- Leading and managing projects within the HSES domain, related to Data Science & AI
- Data Science for HSES
- Implement NLP and Generative AI techniques to analyze safety reports, environmental data, and security logs, extracting actionable insights.
- ML on Cloud Platforms
- Utilize platforms like AWS Sage maker and Azure ML for building and deploying robust data models tailored to HSES needs.
- Technical Expertise in Data Science
- Apply advanced programming skills in Python and R, focusing on libraries and tools relevant to safety, environment, and security analytics.
- Leverage cloud computing for scalable data processing and model development.
- Data Science CI/CD and Assurance
- Manage data versioning, model re-evaluation, and model versioning, ensuring high standards of data integrity and reliability.
- Uphold assurance in all models, including aspects like reproducibility, explainability, bias mitigation, and compliance with HSES standards.
- Collaboration with DevOps
- Work closely with the DevOps team to integrate data science workflows into existing HSES systems and protocols.
- Machine Learning Pipelines
- Design and maintain machine learning pipelines for real-time and batch processing, specifically for HSES applications.
- Model Industrialization
- Focus on the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of models, ensuring they meet the high standards required for HSES applications.
- Managing project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques
- Reporting project outcomes and/or risks to the appropriate management channels and escalate issues, as necessary, according to project work plan
About You
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have
- Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or related fields.
- Experience in data science, preferably with a focus on health, safety, and environmental applications.
- Proficiency in GenAI, Python and/or R, with experience in cloud computing and machine learning platforms.
- Understanding of HSES principles and practices in the mining industry.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
