About The Role
Join our inclusive Process Engineering & Major Hazards function here at Rio Tinto, as an
Engineer Process Control in the Project Delivery team.
This unique role will see you execute fixed plant upgrade works, focused on projects with high levels of technical complexity, business risk, strategic importance, or productivity benefit.
Reporting to the Superintendent Process Control Delivery - Process Engineering & Major Hazards, you will be responsible for the below duties
- Deliver projects that are aligned with Rio Tinto standards and industry best-practice
- Assist in design, development, commissioning and operational readiness of control systems within the portfolio
- Lead the delivery of packages of control system solutions as part of one or more projects
- Collaborate with specialists to benchmark for best practice control system development processes, build tools and systems to ensure high quality control systems are delivered by all project teams
- Participate in technical and project risk assessment and escalate as necessary
- Support project stakeholder engagement through knowledge transfer and project communications
- On-going escalation support of the systems delivered within the portfolio, breakdown escalation & recovery, incident investigation, change management review & approval
- Deliver projects so they adhere to “The Way We Work” and internal processes for Change Management and Approvals
- Support the Mechatronics and Control Systems Engineering discipline by guiding interns and graduates
What You’ll Bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have
- Tertiary qualified in Mechatronics, Control Systems, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Proficiency in industrial automation platforms and methods, e.g., Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems
- Familiarity with Process Control philosophies
- Familiarity with high level programming languages, communication protocols and IT/OT infrastructures
- Familiarity with electrical and instrumentation concepts and standards
- Familiarity with data processing, analysis techniques and tools
- Sound influencing, stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
- Awareness of Capital Processes and Project Management stages
- Current ‘C’ Class Driver's License (Manual)

Where you’ll be working
This role will be based at our Operations Centre in Perth. This role is offered on a 5/2 weekly roster, with flexibility where required.
Our integrated iron ore network is supported by our Operations Centre (OC) in Perth, a state-of-the-art facility that enables all the autonomous trucks, trains and drills at our mines, ports and rail systems to be operated from a single location. The Centre incorporates visualisation and collaboration tools to provide real-time information across our demand chain and allows us to optimise our mining, maintenance and logistic activities across the Pilbara in a way never before possible. Located near the Perth domestic airport, the OC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to coordinate our integrated network of mines, rail, and ports from 1,500km away.
