Mining’s old guard needs strong medicine
A new report details subpar investor returns in the mining industry over the last decade, particularly big cap diversified companies which have not adapted to new realities.
A methane emission in a coal mine in Russia’s northern Komi Republic killed two workers, steelmaker Severstal said on Friday.
Work has been suspended at the mine owned by a subsidiary, Severstal said, adding that there was no threat of an explosion and that it was investigating the reason for the incident.
Two other miners, underground in the affected section of the pit at the time, managed to return to the surface, it added.
The mine is owned by Vorkutaugol, one of Russia’s largest producers of hard coking coal.
