Soaring demand for copper will help drive mergers, BHP CEO says
Demand for copper, a key element in the energy transition, is set to rise by 70% to 100% by 2050, Mike Henry said
Chile state miner Codelco produced 111,700 metric tons of copper in May, up a slight 0.7% from a year earlier, the South American country’s Cochilco copper commission said on Wednesday, while other miners also increased production.
BHP-controlled Escondida mine meanwhile lifted its production 26.5% from a year earlier to 106,100 tons, while Collahuasi, jointly run by miners Glencore and Anglo American, saw output rise 6.9% to 46,200 tons.
