Copper: Humanity’s first and most important future metal
Millions of feet of copper wiring will be required for strengthening the world’s power grids, and hundreds of thousands of tonnes more are needed to build wind and solar farms.
Chile’s total copper production rose 1.7% in July on a yearly basis to reach 430,900 metric tons, the country’s copper commission Cochilco said on Monday.
Production was up 5.71% at the Collahuasi mine to 50,000 tons, Cochilco said, while output from Escondida – controlled by Australian mining giant BHP – rose 1.23% to 82,400 tons.
State-owned giant Codelco, meanwhile, saw its copper output slip 2.6% in the period to 124,700 tons, the commission added.
