1947 was when it all began as  Bill Lede, Ledcor Group’s founder, secured a contract to remove overburden at the Black Nugget coal mine—for 19 cents per cubic yard. With more than seven decades of experience, Ledcor’s Heavy Civil & Mining team has been one of the key building blocks of the organization.

Ledcor US Heavy Civil and Mining services include full-scale contract mining for coal, metals, and minerals, which combines the benefits of a supplied equipment fleet, an experienced workforce, and proven management systems that improve efficiency and reduce environmental risk.

The fleet consists of over fifty 100-ton haul trucks, 15  large wheel loaders, a dozen large mining drills and the fleet of supporting bulldozers, graders and support equipment, making the team flexible, adaptable, mobile and positioned to handle large contract mining opportunities.

Every project  is about people and the power of partnerships and the company is expanding its team.

“We pride ourselves on developing long term relationships with our clients by focusing on safety, efficiency and overall client satisfaction.” says Jim Kennedy, General Manager, US Heavy Civil and Mining. With relationships with some of the largest mining companies in the world— such as Barrick and Newmont and also with Nevada Gold Mines, Scorpio Gold and Fiore Gold Ltd, some for over 25 years — the range of services is as huge as some of the mines the team work’s on.

The team completes works to ensure mines run the way they need to, smoothly, efficiently, and most of all safely. Thanks to the diligence and training of everyone on the ground, Ledcor US Heavy Civil & Mining has been awarded the Nevada Mining Associations Annual Contractor Safety Award numerous times, including 2017, 2018 and 2019.

“We look out for one another, take care of each other and work together to make sure everyone goes home safely every day,” says Kennedy.

Based in Reno, Nevada, with vast long-term projects in multiple locations across Nevada and into California, Ledcor US Heavy Civil and Mining is a division under the Ledcor Group of Companies. As part of a large, employee-owned organization, employees can participate in a diverse range of career training and development. This includes field, classroom, computer-based and simulator training. With an extensive operator training group and experienced mobile equipment trainers, new and existing employees can develop new skills and build a career within the company.

“Last year we hired over 350 new employees currently spread over ten project locations.  We anticipate another great year of growth as we engage in new projects. We continue to look for hard-working, dedicated people that have a strong commitment to safety.

Our opportunities range from Technical roles, Managers to Operators,” says Kennedy.

As a Mining Engineer with a long history working in the Mining Industry throughout North America, Kennedy joined Ledcor over 10 years ago. “We operate with the feel of a smaller family business where relationships are encouraged and fostered. It is inevitable that your co-workers become your friends. Our goal is to provide a rewarding work environment with opportunities for growth and development for all our employees while offering superior service to our clients.”
