Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Corporate Director, Health & Safety, you will be part of the Health & Safety Department. In this role you will lead the development and implementation of corporate safety and risk management programs. The role plays a critical part in advancing a proactive prevention culture, strengthening major hazard management, and ensuring the effectiveness of systems, standards, and critical controls across all operations that reduce incidents, ensure regulatory compliance, and protect people and operations across the enterprise.
- Provide enterprise-wide strategic leadership in health, safety, and risk management, prevention, continuous improvement, and a proactive, values-driven safety culture across all business units.
- Define and execute the organization’s H&S and enterprise risk management vision, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Lead the development, implementation, and governance of corporate health & safety standards, risk management frameworks, audit programs, and major hazard and critical control management systems to ensure consistent and effective risk mitigation.
- Establish governance structures and ensure accountability for safety and risk performance at all organizational levels, including executive reporting and Board-level engagement as required.
- Embed risk-based thinking into day-to-day operations by supporting the operational teams, and overseeing the deployment and governance of risk assessment tools (e.g., Supervision Formula).
- Ensure consistent application of risk management practices and standards across all sites and functions, driving operational excellence and standardized approaches to hazard identification and control.
- Oversee enterprise risk assessment processes, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, internal standards, and evolving industry practices.
- Lead the design and implementation of KPIs, leading indicators, and performance dashboards to monitor safety and risk outcomes and enable proactive, data-driven decision-making.
- Foster a strong culture of engagement, communication, and change management to support the successful adoption of safety and risk initiatives across the organization.
- Build organizational capability by mentoring leaders, influencing behaviors, and promoting accountability for safety and risk management performance.
- Ensure effective incident investigation processes, including oversight of high-potential and serious incidents, with a focus on root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.
- Lead and support internal and external audits, reviews, and assurance activities, ensuring timely closure of findings and the continuous strengthening of control frameworks.
What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
- 15+ years of experience in health, safety, and risk management, ideally within the mining or heavy industry sector.
- Extensive leadership experience.
- Strong expertise in major hazard management and critical control
- Strong Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies (e.g., Bowtie)
- Strong knowledge and understanding of health & safety management systems, audits, and governance practices.
- Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives and drive organizational change.
- Experience leveraging data analytics, KPIs and safety management systems to support decision making.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
- Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from our Corporate Office in Toronto, ON. Occasional visits to site may also be required.
