Rainy River
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role

Position Reports To: Open Pit Chief Geologist
Position Overview
Reporting to the Open Pit Chief Geologist and Senior Geologist, the incumbent is responsible for participating in grade control activities related to the examination of geological data and processes, and to ensure operating guidelines are followed. The Open Pit Grade Control will work with the Geology team to complete a variety of assignments as required to keep the mine operating in an efficient manner. This will include participation in daily Grade Control activities and assisting the RC drilling program when required. They will provide direct supervision for non-technical staff and will be responsible to ensure the team is focused completing the priority tasks while working in a safe manner and to the expected standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all work performed by the team is compliant with Rainy River Health & Safety policies
- Work in conjunction with Senior Open Pit Geologist to ensure the achievement of departmental and operational goals.
- Provide direct supervision to non-technical staff responsible for the collection of Blast Hole and RC drilling samples, the delivery of samples to onsite lab, the demarcation of ore boundaries in the field and all other activities as they arise.
- Participate in the coaching, mentorship, and evaluation of non-technical staff
- Ensure the QAQC protocols are in place and followed by the sampling team
- Assist with determination of ore waste boundaries and provide guidance to Operations on ore handling and dilution control
- Work in collaboration with the Engineering team to determine ore allocation priorities and provide guidance to the operation team
- Lineup daily RC drilling activities when required
- Geological data collection and interpretation including pit mapping and maintaining site structural model
- Assist in reconcile mine with mill data, and mine with reserve and resource data
- Daily, Weekly, Monthly reporting
- Managing database integrity and review data for production and reconciliation purposes
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures
- Assist in all aspects of production and in other key areas of the mine as required
Qualifications
- 4 Year University geology program
- Registered or able to register as a P. Geo in Ontario, Canada
- Minimum of 1 years of experience in Open pit mining
- Valid Driver’s license
- Strong interdepartmental communication skills
- Able to change and re-prioritize tasks as new information is gathered
- Strong ability to self-learn
- Able to work independently or within groups
- Strong computer skills
- Experience with Reverse Circulation drilling is an asset
- Experience in mentoring and training others is an asset
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position will be between $80,000.00 - $91,000.00.
