Engineering Superintendent

Alamos Gold’s
Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. Role Overview
As an
Engineering Superintendent, you will play a strategic role in driving mine planning, engineering performance, and operational efficiency. You will be responsible for leading and executing initiatives related to mine design, ventilation, dewatering, material handling, underground construction, and drilling and blasting. Working closely with Technical Services, Operations, Geology, and Geotechnical teams, you will drive innovation, foster growth, and enhance overall mine performance while achieving production targets safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Lead the engineering team, improving productivity, performance, and technical execution across mine operations.
- Mine Planning & Strategy: Oversee short- and long-term mine planning, including design optimization and production forecasting.
- Operational Coordination: Facilitate planning meetings and coordinate engineering activities with operations to achieve production goals.
- Performance Optimization: Evaluate systems and mine designs, develop alternative mining methods, and optimize ore extraction, sequencing, and cost efficiency.
- Team Development & Governance: Manage performance, support recruitment and development, oversee budgets, reporting, and ensure compliance with standards, safety, and regulations.
What You Bring To The Table
- 7+ years of experience in underground mining engineering, including supervisory leadership.
- Proven track record in mine planning, long-hole mining methods, and operational improvement initiatives.
- Eng. designation in Ontario with a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Deswik, VentSim, Excel, and mine planning and scheduling software.
- Passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and safe, efficient mining operations.
