The Great Bear property is a greenfield, large-scale deposit with the potential for significant open pit and underground operations. A Preliminary Economic Assessment was released in September 2024. In early 2025, the project moved into the detailed engineering and major equipment procurement phase.

Job Description

The Earthworks / Tailings Dam Superintendent is responsible for all planning and construction aspects of the tailings management and mine waste management facilities, plant site earthworks (includes tree clearing, site access roads, and pit development) and related water management (collectively earthworks scope). During detailed engineering the focus will be on construction planning, while in the construction phase, the role will be responsible for managing the successful execution of all related construction activities safely, on-time and on-budget. The role is initially based in Toronto (remote work possible) and will be site-based during construction.

The Project is being executed using an Owner’s Project Team model. The incumbent will work closely and effectively with all GBR departments, including Health and Safety, Environment, External Affairs, Project Controls, Engineering, Quality Assurance and Operations to ensure that the overall Project objectives are met.

The role will initially be based in Toronto and then transition to the Red Lake site.

Job Responsibilities

Develop a detailed understanding of the earthworks scope, assumptions, schedule, budget, risks and opportunities.
Review, validate, and approve design deliverables and construction documentation for the earthworks scope to ensure constructability and compliance with project standards.
In collaboration with the Planner, develop and maintain a detailed work schedule and construction work packages for the earthworks scope, ensuring alignment with overall construction milestones and critical path activities.
Participate in the preparation of comprehensive tender documents and contractor selection processes to identify qualified firms for earthworks scopes.
Lead and manage construction budgets for the earthworks scopes, ensuring cost control and transparency throughout project execution.
Support the completion of the CAPEX update, with a focus on cost development for earthworks scopes.
Support permitting and regulatory submissions by providing required technical documentation, design inputs, and construction planning details.
Coordinate and implement project plans, design specifications, and schedules in close collaboration with the engineering, procurement, and project management teams.
Actively participate in Independent Tailings Review Panel (ITRP) meetings, providing technical input and field-based perspective on design, constructability, and operational considerations.
Proactively identify, assess, and resolve design and constructability issues, recommending practical, cost-effective solutions to maintain schedule and quality objectives.
Manage the selected contractors for the earthworks scopes, ensuring compliance to Great Bear health & safety and environmental management requirements, and adherence to schedule, contractual terms and quality requirements, and manage interfaces with other project areas and contractors.
Oversee QA/QC requirements for the earthworks scope in collaboration with the contactors and engineer of record (“EOR”) and ensure all required documentation is in place.

Education and Experience

Education:

Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological science or engineering

Experience:

10 or more years of geotechnical work experience, with at least 5+ years in tailings and mine waste management and construction of large-scale earthworks supervision.
Experience in Canadian mining projects and soft ground (glaciolacustrine soils) required. Northern, cold climate experience is an asset

Compensation & Total Rewards

The base salary range for this role is $160,000 to $185,000 CAD + Short Term Incentive Bonus + Group Benefits Coverage
