About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose
To lead the safe and efficient delivery of maintenance repairs and statutory inspections for Light Vehicles, Buses, Medium Trucks, Trailers and Tractors, while working closely with planning and operations to ensure work quality, minimise unplanned downtime, and maintain compliant, reliable assets that support production.
Essential Duties
- Consistently comply with all safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
- Identifies, reports, and actively controls hazards in accordance with OHSE requirements to prevent incidents and minimize risk.
- Promotes environmental stewardship by recognizing opportunities to reduce waste and applying safe, compliant work practices.
- Supervises routine, scheduled, and corrective maintenance on Light Ancillary Equipment to maintain safe and reliable fleet performance.
- Conducts accurate assessments of component wear, defects, and damage, documenting findings clearly to support effective work order planning and parts management.
- Interprets technical drawings, schematics, and parts manuals to correctly identify components, assemblies, and required maintenance tasks.
- Provides technical guidance during maintenance activities and equipment troubleshooting.
- Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional departments to optimize maintenance workflow, reduce downtime, and enhance overall site operational performance.
- Manages multiple tasks and priorities efficiently, ensuring timely completion of maintenance activities and administrative requirements.
- Demonstrates strong teamwork and communication skills, listening actively and confirming team understanding to ensure clarity and alignment
- Mentors and develop team members, providing guidance on maintenance procedures, safe work practices, and alignment with site standards.
Training & Experience
- Relevant academic qualification or trade qualification
- Proven ability to lead and supervise production crews in a high‑performance mining environment.
- Strong understanding of critical operations and how light ancillary equipment support essential operational activities.
- Demonstrated excellence in safety leadership, risk management, and compliance.
- Solid foundation in mining or industrial engineering principles, through qualification or extensive field experience.
- Proficiency in timekeeping systems, fleet management tools, and safety reporting platforms.
- Strong capability in continuous improvement, problem‑solving, and operational decision‑making.
- Effective communication, coaching, and team leadership skills aligned with supervisory‑level expectations
