Senior Principal Exploration Geologist
SRK Exploration Ltd (SRK EX) is looking for a highly experienced, Principal Geologist to become the senior technical lead in our Johannesburg branch office (7 staff currently). Candidates must be committed to run and be part of a dynamic team of exploration geologists and be able to grow the consulting business, particularly in Africa, to defined goals. Job Description
The work involved in undertaking this role may include the following activities, as well as other responsibilities as required:
- Responsible for the quality and efficient delivery of all technical work in the ZA Branch Office
- Responsible for winning work and enabling all team members to do same
- Answerable directly to the Directors of the ZA entity together with the Main Board in Cardiff
- Working with the Branch Office Administrator to ensure maximum efficiency
- Responsible for building and expanding the SRK EX brand in Southern Africa
- Leading on inter-practice liaison with SRK Consulting ZA
Main Technical Requirements:
- BSc (minimum) in Geology, Applied Geology, Exploration Geology or equivalent with the majority of experience gained in an international environment.
- MSc /PhD (preferred), in a relevant subject area.
- Professional qualifications CP/QP
- Experience of working with a variety of commodities
- Evidence of exposure to grassroots exploration projects including designing, planning, scheduling, audits and valuation.
- Awareness of developments in geological software and the advances in the data science sector and their application
- Proven track record of acting as project director and bringing projects in on time, within budget and to the clients satisfaction
- The ability to perform physical work in difficult, remote environments, and understanding the associated hazards.
- Have a track record in operational health and safety compliance
- Preparing Independent Technical Report CPRs and NI 43-101 reports
- QA/QC, Audit and economic evaluation of exploration projects worldwide
- Client liaison, project management and co-ordination of large teams
- Project finance reconciliation and contribution to the Company annual budget
- Participation and presentation at national and international conferences
- Communication, support, knowledge and compliance of SRK EX systems
Essential Requirements
- Experience in building, managing and expanding teams of technical staff.
- A current track record of winning work.
- A keen sense of marketing and building external contacts
- Extensive international (inside and outside Africa) practical and operational experience gained in the exploration / mining environment.
- Experience setting deadlines and holding staff to account for deliverables and quality of technical work.
- Experience working in a geological consultancy
- The ability to represent the Branch office and the company in general at the highest level both internally and externally.
- A keen sense of succession and a history of mentoring and developing younger staff
- South African Citizenship or Permanent residence status in the RSA with relevant work permits.
- Be based in Johannesburg or show a commitment to relocate.
- A willingness to travel worldwide and be away from home for up to a maximum of two weeks.
