Your Next Challenge
The Lead Cost Controller oversees the cost control function for the project and provides direction, support, and expertise to the cost control team. Working closely with project controls, engineering, procurement, and construction teams, the Lead Cost Controller ensures that budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting are completed accurately and consistently.
In this role, the individual is responsible for validating overall project cost performance, identifying risks, and ensuring that financial information is up to date and aligned with project objectives. The Lead Cost Controller will lead monthly cost review meetings, coordinate with department leads to validate Estimate to Complete (ETC) inputs and provide strategic insights to upper management.
The successful candidate will play a key role in driving cost control practices, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring the integrity of financial data throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead the cost control team, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of all cost related analyses and reports
- Provide coaching, guidance, and support cost controllers
- Plan and facilitate monthly cost review meetings with department leads and management
- Develop and maintain best practices, standards, and tools for cost control processes
- Oversee monthly budget updates by extracting and validating data from JDE
- Coordinate and challenge Estimate to Complete (ETC) revisions with team members and department leaders
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of forecasting methodologies across the project
- Prepare and present monthly PowerPoint presentations for Management, summarizing cost status, variances, and risks
- Analyze and explain major cost variances between actuals and budget
- Provide insights on project financial health and recommend mitigation measures when required
- Lead preparation of documentation related to project overruns and contingency usage
- Oversee tracking, codification, and analysis of CGMs (project scope changes)
- Ensure all change orders are properly coded, justified, and reflected in the budget
- Maintain strong governance on cost-related controls and approval processes
- Collaborate with planning, procurement, and construction teams to maintain alignment between schedule, progress, and costs
What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in administration, finance, engineering, or a related field
- CPA designation considered an asset
- 5+ years of experience in cost control, including at least 2 years in a leadership or senior role
- Bilingual: English & French
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and advanced functions)
- Experience with JDE (Oracle) is an asset
- Strong analytical, communication, and problemsolving skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities
- Proactive, detailoriented, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively
Your Work Schedule
Schedule: 5/2 schedule (Monday to Friday) from our office in Val-d'Or, QC.
Occasional work in remote construction sites in northern conditions may be required.
