Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Corporate Director, Internal Audit, you will be part of the Finance Department. You will primarily be responsible for leading the planning, execution, and reporting of internal audit activities. You will also be responsible for ensuring strong internal controls, supporting the implementation of risk management, reporting initiatives relating to the Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA), fraud detection and assessments as well as anti-corruption / anti-bribery initiatives. You will work closely with site leadership, corporate functions, and executive management to enhance our risk management and control environment.
- Effectively manage end-to-end SOX testing for an entire site or region (design, plan, execution, remediation, and reporting)
- Ensure SOX testing and documentation reflect the operational complexity of mining, including production accounting, inventory and metal reconciliation, capital projects, and site‑based financial processes.
- Write and review SOX control changes. Review and approve SOX testing performed by Managers, Senior Auditors, and co‑sourced audit partners, and act as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Maintain ownership of SOX documentation and control status tracking, ensuring compliance with SOX Sections 302 and 404 and timely remediation of control changes or deficiencies.
- Provide training and advisory support to site controllers, corporate process owners, and operational leaders to strengthen the internal control environment across the mining value chain.
- Partner with the Corporate Director on high‑risk and sensitive reviews, including operational audits, environmental and tailings governance, procurement and supply chain, health and safety, major capital projects, and production processes.
- Act as a primary point of contact with external auditors and the business, and effectively manage issues that arise for either party.
- Oversee entity‑wide ESTMA reporting, and manage relationships with third‑party firms supporting operational, environmental, and technical audits.
- Prepare Audit Committee materials, support workforce planning and resource allocation, coach and develop Managers and Senior Auditors, and provide strategic insight on emerging mining‑sector risks and regulatory expectations.
- Stay current on mining‑sector regulatory expectations, including environmental, safety, and Indigenous relations obligations, ensuring these risks are incorporated in audit planning.
- Maintain ongoing knowledge of current developments relating to auditing including SOX, the SEC, and PCAOB.
What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field;
- CPA, CA, CIA, or equivalent license;
- 5 to 7 years of experience in internal auditing, financial, or similar roles;
- Additional certifications in audit, risk, or mining-related disciplines are considered an asset;
- Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset;
- Strong leadership and team development capabilities;
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills;
- Advanced analytical and risk assessment capabilities, as well as in-depth knowledge of internal audit methodologies;
- Deep understanding of internal controls within mining operations, including production, maintenance, procurement, inventory, and capital projects;
- Strong proficiency in SOX compliance, documentation, control testing, and remediation.
Your Work Schedule
- Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from our Toronto Head Office. A combination of in-person and teleworking. Occasional visits to sites may also be required.
