Mission:
Reporting to the Director, Procurement & Logistics, the Procurement & Contracts Lead is Responsible for managing contracts entered between Copper World, LLC and suppliers of goods and services, safeguarding compliance with contractual agreements, including time, scope and cost, as well as ensuring compliance with Hudbay’s policies.
The role will be located at the head office in Tucson, Arizona and will require occasional travel to the site in Helvetia, Arizona

Purpose of role:
The Senior Buyer is responsible for the strategic procurement of parts, materials, and equipment critical to operations. This role ensures each step of the procurement process achieves maximum cost-effectiveness while maintaining strict adherence to company policy. The Senior Buyer serves as a technical lead, handling complex sourcing requirements and providing mentorship to the purchasing team.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Strategic Procurement: Responsible for the procurement of goods and services, ensuring all steps are directed towards cost-effectiveness and adherence to company policy.
- Technical Evaluation: Perform commercial and technical evaluations of competing proposals to ensure the best product selection for site operations.
- Supplier Performance: Effectively manage supplier relationships and collaboratively drive continuous performance improvement via relevant metrics such as cost, schedule, and safety.
- Dispute & Change Management: Negotiate and settle order-related disputes with vendors and manage order processing to ensure compliance with contractual terms.
- Operational Liaison: Liaise with end-users and internal requestors to ensure commitments and milestones are achieved, while coordinating with vendors to expedite progress.
- Reporting & Strategy: Prepare, update, and maintain procurement reports, including registers for procurement strategy and contracts placed.
- Financial Oversight: Administer assigned orders, including invoice processing and verification, to ensure contractor compliance in a cost-effective and timely manner.
- Leadership & Mentoring: Provide coaching, support, and guidance to other team members to ensure the delivery of departmental results.
- Risk Escalation: Proactively escalate complex functional or technical issues to the Purchasing or Project Manager in a timely manner.
- Inventory Optimization: Review warehouse inventory items for potential Fixed Price Agreements (FPA) or consignment to reduce costs.
- Compliance: Ensure commercial and procurement correspondence is handled efficiently and aligns with Hudbay’s values of Dignity, Respect, Caring, and Trustworthiness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Significant experience in a purchasing or buyer role, specifically with parts and equipment.
- Technical Skills: Intermediate to advanced level proficiency in MS Office or Google Suite packages.
- Licensing: Must possess a current and valid driver's license and be able to perform the physical functions of operating a motor vehicle.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Industry Experience: Experience in a similar role within the Engineering, Mining, or Construction industries.
- Specialized Procurement: Specific experience in Capital Procurement and the selection of high-value equipment.
- Advanced Systems: Knowledge of ERP systems and automated procurement strategies.
- Professional Certification: Certification such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or equivalent.
