Reporting to the Coordinator – Apprenticeship & Graduates, you will be responsible for planning and delivering a structured learning pathway that develops mining apprentices and graduates into competent and safety-conscious excavators & shovels techniques.
Your Duties and Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:
- Plan and implement structured training programmes for apprentices and graduates on Heavy Mobile Equipment, ensuring alignment with operational and safety standards.
- Deliver classroom-based theoretical training on equipment systems, controls, safe operating procedures, traffic management, hazard identification, and emergency response.
- Conduct practical, hands-on training on equipment such as haul trucks including pre-start inspections, safe maneuvering, loading and dumping techniques, and shutdown procedures.
- Coordinate supervised on-the-job training exposure, ensuring learners operate equipment strictly within their authorized competency and supervision levels.
- Assess learner competence through written tests, practical field evaluations, simulator assessments (where applicable), and completion of logbooks.
- Maintain accurate training records, operator authorization matrices, certification status, and refresher schedules within the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Monitor operator performance and identify skills gaps, recommending refresher training or corrective coaching where necessary.
- Integrate incident learnings, near-miss reports, audit findings, and updated procedures into training content to reinforce critical risk controls.
- Liaise with Mining Supervisors, Maintenance personnel, Safety Officers, and programme coordinators to ensure training supports operational productivity and compliance.
- Ensure all training materials and assessments are aligned with OEM standards, site procedures, and applicable mining regulations.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the coordinator.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Minimum Certificate in Excavator and Shovel operations.
- Minimum Certificate in Teaching Methodology from a recognized learning institution.
- Minimum 5 years’ work experience in a similar role.
- Experience in working in mining operations.
- Planning and good record keeping.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team safely and improve team safety awareness
