We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description
As
Mine Care Analyst you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Safety and Health
- Consistently apply Safety and Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
- Active participation in SLAMs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.
- Performance Delivery
- Collaborate closely with mining operations, equipment maintenance and condition monitoring teams to understand data requirements and objectives related to mining operations, including sensors on equipment, maintenance records, production reports, and more.
- Collect, clean, and pre-process large volumes of data from various sources to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Conduct a thorough analysis of operational data to identify performance trends, operational efficiencies, and opportunities for optimisation.
- Design and create interactive dashboards tailored to mining professionals, enabling them to monitor real-time equipment health, performance, and maintenance needs.
- Utilize data visualisation tools (Power BI) to develop visually compelling and user-friendly dashboards (incorporating human factors engineering) that enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Implement advanced analytics techniques to forecast equipment maintenance needs and recommend preventive measures to mitigate downtime.
- Collaborate with data engineers and IT teams to ensure seamless data integration, data quality, and data governance for asset-related datasets.
- Incorporate drill-down features, filters, and other interactive components within dashboards to allow users to explore equipment performance metrics and historical trends.
- Perform rigorous testing of dashboards to validate accuracy, responsiveness, and functionality; iterate based on user feedback and operational requirements.
- Stay abreast of mining industry best practices and emerging trends in equipment analytics to improve the quality and relevance of dashboards continuously.
- Provide training sessions and technical support to operations and maintenance teams to facilitate the effective use of the dashboards that have been developed.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and data-driven decision-making across mining operations.
This role is in the Engineering & Maintenance HME/Plant (ENG) at a Band 7 level reporting to the Condition Monitoring Coordinator Online Tech.
Qualifications
- Grade 12/ N3 Technical
- Higher National Vocational qualifications (Certificate) in an Engineering field on NQF5
- N6 National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field (Preferred)
- Certifications in condition monitoring, reliability engineering, or predictive maintenance (e.g. Vibration Analysis, Thermography) (Preferred)
- SA Driver’s License Code B
Experience
- Demonstrated experience in remote health monitoring systems, condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, or reliability engineering, coupled with 3-5 years of relevant experience in data analysis and dashboard development, preferably in mining operations.
- Knowledgeable in data visualisation tools such as Power BI, possessing a strong understanding of how to derive actionable insights from complex operational data.
- Familiarity with mining equipment and maintenance practices is highly advantageous.
- Solid understanding of data preprocessing, cleaning, and transformation techniques.
