We are looking for
2 x Officer Safety to provide an effective H&S Service, in consultation with the Chief Safety Officer, to a designated Division in accordance with the respective service delivery requirements in order to ensure optimum H&S performance and legal compliance within the Division. This service is expanded to the contractors at RBM to ensure compliance to legislative requirements.
Reporting to the
Chief Safety Officer and working in a collaborative community within the HSE team, you will
- Assist with the monitoring of compliance to the Mines Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation by conducting inspections.
- Assume functions and responsibilities of a Safety Officer in terms of Regulation 2.19.1of the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996
- Ensure compliance to Mandatory COP’s and other safety related COP’s and GP’s i.e. WAH, confined spaces, cranes and lifting barricading, scaffolding, isolation and lock out etc.
- Inspect machine guarding and machinery to ensure safe operation thereof.
- Safety equipment is maintained in good condition and appropriately utilized.
- Employee training and competencies to be verified in the workplace.
- Conduct workplace inspections to verify compliance to legislation within the plants.
- Report immediate or potential threats in the workplace and prepare legal appointment letters.
What You’ll Bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- National Diploma in Safety Management (Please attach)
- SAMTRAC/ COMSOC/NEBOSH, Incident Investigation/Analysis, Risk Management (Please attach)
- 3 years H&S exposure in a mining environment
- Have in depth knowledge of mining operation relating to processes and the safe operation of machinery and equipment.
- Be familiar with MHSA regulations and its application
- Sound knowledge of risk assessment systems and Occupational Hygiene Measurements
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
- Operational, engineering, project experience
- Insight into the processes and operations of mining and all H&S issues incorporated.
- Knowledge and experience in the statistical analysis of H&S data and the effective presentation thereof.
