Job Description
The purpose of Anglo Platinum Marketing is to sustainably maximise cash flows from the marketing and trading of Anglo Platinum products and services. In support of this, we have set ourselves a target to deliver a considerable uplift in returns by 2028.
Anglo Platinum Marketing has insourced the sales, marketing and market development activities of its distributors, and in recent times have added a trading capability to its offering. This has significantly improved annual recurring profits. Maintaining and growing this value requires a regional, customer focused sales and marketing team to compete for business and to seek out the most profitable route to market for metal products.
Role Purpose:
Define and execute the regional and global Physical and Financial Derivative Trading strategies for both own mine and third part metal flows. In addition, the successful candidate will be seeking to maximise returns from dislocations in PGM and Base Metals markets, in line with the overall Trading strategy and within risk tolerances and governance frameworks.
Responsibilities include:
Leadership
- Initiate working relationships beyond immediate team, fostering cross-commodity collaboration, innovation and synergies for the Anglo Platts Marketing business unit.
- Lead by example to embed the Anglo Platt behaviours as the way the Marketing team works together.
Trading Strategy
- Develop and execute the near to medium term global strategies (both outright and derivative based) for Precious and Base Metals (Paper and Physical) trading strategies (own mine and third-party volumes)
- Regularly present trading ideas and efficiency proposals to the Head and team to demonstrate ability
- Work with clients to enable innovative solutions for offtake or sourcing needs
- Utilise derivative structures to deal with supply risk factors and help protect asset production in times of uncertainty
- Use relationships with Base Metal warehouses to manage inventory levels
- Target Delivery
- Deliver budgeted earnings and manage the P&L.
- Full accountability and ownership for running the regional and global physical and financial derivative commodity trading activities.
- Coordinate with regional desks to deliver targets of equity commodity volume, including margin, sales volume, debtors and management of inventory.
- Daily valuation of all physical and financial commodity contracts to identify best value.
- Demonstrate desire to achieve further advancement by regular involvement in company initiatives and tasks
Optimization and Growth
- Develop new customer accounts and opportunities regionally to sell and buy through relationship management, contract negotiations, new applications and meeting customer value in use requirements.
- Monitor and utilise Physical and Financial instruments to expand and complement our existing business.
- Assist with the build out the new Base Metal franchise post the demerger process
Risk and Governance
- Deliver the commodity trading strategy within the Platts marketing’s defined risk and governance framework.
- Coach others to embed a zero-breach culture of limits and frameworks
- Complete responsibility and ownership of Front Office contribution to the implementation of any new risk management systems regarding physical commodity transactions.
- Ensure all physical trading transactions are executed within approved limits (capital, balance sheet, inventory)
