About The Role
We are currently looking for a
Track Inspector to play a key role within the Condition Monitoring Team, working across one of the most unique heavy haul railway networks in world.
The Condition Monitoring Team are a dynamic and cohesive crew whose primary responsibilities are to regularly inspect and report on the condition of our vast rail network, ensuring alignment to the relevant Rio Tinto Rail Standards and Codes of Practice.
Your duties will include
- Conducting rail infrastructure inspections by hi-rail, walking track or the use of digital track inspection tools and systems
- Proactively examine and identify rail infrastructure defects according to the relevant Standards and Codes of Practice, and the appropriate maintenance needed
- Liaising and coordinating with key stakeholders such as Planning & Scheduling, Train Control, Asset Health, Rail Operations, and maintenance stakeholders to ensure the safe and effective inspection of the rail network is done in accordance with RTIO Code of Practice and HSEQ policies
- Attend to call out and urgent inspection requirements
- Preparing defect and maintenance reports to enable appropriate communication and data capture as per RTIO work management practice
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness and comply with all RTIO Company Policies and procedures
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement projects – increasing safety whilst reducing risk & cost
- Utilize SAP to ensure that maintenance tasks are recorded, assigned correctly, and completed to the relevant standard or specification
What You’ll Bring
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Problem solving skills
- SAP Experience
- Proficient Computer Systems and Software Skills
- Prior experience as a Track Inspector is advantageous
- Sound knowledge of track measuring and recording equipment
- Certificate III Rail Infrastructure highly regarded but not essential
- A Manual C Class Australian Drivers License essential

Where you’ll be working
You will be based in Karratha at our 7 Mile rail facility. Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 16 mines across the Pilbara via 1,700km of track. With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), each train is operated by a single driver and comprises up to three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.7 kilometres in length with over 40 trains operating per day. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network.
