Are you interested in gaining hands-on experience in Water Treatment, Environmental Management & Health and Safety within the mining industry? We are strongly encouraging Local Mi’gmaq First Nations students to apply. Preference will be given to Pabineau and Eel River Bar First Nations. We are currently accepting applications for the following position at our Brunswick Smelter Reclamation Site:
Student – Brunswick Smelter – 4 month work term
The successful candidate will join our small operations team at the Brunswick Smelter Reclamation Site, located in Belledune, NB. The incumbent will assist with day-to-day operations of the site, water management facilities, including the water treatment plant.
Responsibilities
- Assistance with the collection of water samples (surface water and groundwater);
- Clean and calibrate of monitoring instruments pH, turbidity, conductivity probes;
- Continue the development of a technical report archive;
- Assist with the maintenance of environmental database for the site;
- Involvement in general site surveillance;
- Review, gather, and enter data for routine reporting requirements, including operations and Health and Safety;
- Assist with the development and maintenance of site related procedures and documents;
- Assist with respirator hygiene fit testing
- Assist with relevant projects that may occur.
Qualifications
- University or College Student enrolled in a Post-Secondary program. Studies in the field of Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering/Technician, Civil Engineering/Technician, Water Resources Engineering/Technician, Earth Sciences or Geoscience would be considered an asset but are not mandatory;
- A critical and analytical thinker;
- Strong written communication skills;
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
- Strong Microsoft Word and/or Excel capabilities;
- Relevant work, co-op or research experience, is considered an asset;
- A valid driver’s license;
- Ability to work safely at a remote site and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
