Duties
Reporting to the Coordinator Production Geology, you will be responsible for the provision of all production related activities and the interface with the mine planners, mine supervisors and metallurgical engineers to optimize the profitable development of the Lumwana ore bodies and supervise the ore control activities to ensure optimal feed grade material is delivered to the process plant. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure all production reconciliations (mineable block to model (GCO), ore block planned to actual, crusher feed to plant, etc) are being carried on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis and disseminated to all designated personnel and the appropriate actions are being taken to rectify any reconciliation issues.
- Keep open and clear communication channels with the metallurgists’ engineers to ensure ore characteristic information i.e. grade, hardness, recovery, upgrade factors, etc for feed material is being shared to improve recoveries and throughputs.
- Production personnel are correctly managing the collection of all geological data i.e. sampling (assay, gamma logger & met). Evaluating the data and making recommendations on how to improve the feed grade, maximise recovery and throughput in the process plant.
- Geology supervisors are complying with their daily responsibilities i.e. Ore spotting, mark-ups are clear, communicating clearly with mine supervisors, supervising daily face sampling, sending off the daily crusher Ore feed on time, etc.
- Production geologists are managing Hexagon data (to & from) and reporting daily material movements and updating daily, the production graphs.
- Vulcan block model is being correctly flagged and updated with mineable blocks at the end of each month. Know how to evaluate and report mineable blocks against the reserve model and report.
- Blast holes are being correctly identified and sampled by cone & riffle splitter sampling and gamma logging (RS125 optional).

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must have a full Grade 12 school certificate
- Minimum of Three (3) years’ experience in the mining geology associated with large open cut mines. Experience in supervising production / ore control teams.
- Have extensive, current knowledge of mining in large open cut mines with associated knowledge in management principles and philosophies.
- Good planning and organizational skills
- High level of responsibility and shows accountability for own actions
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language
- Self-motivated, high level of commitment and goal oriented
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and show a commitment to understand local culture and impart your mining operations and technical knowledge to the local Zambian mine operations personnel.
- Competent in incident/accident investigation.
