The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Lead, Contractor Safety at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule.

Lead, Contractor Safety
Location
Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Lead, Contractor Safety is responsible for supporting the health and safety of contractors at the site. The Lead, Contractor Safety will develop and implement contractor management systems, along with providing technical expertise on the contractor management program.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and sustain the contractor safety management program,
- Facilitation of risk assessments in alignment with the Fatal Risk Control Strategy,
- Facilitation of training as it applies to contractor management for various stakeholders,
- Support all departments in the integration of contractor management systems,
- Ensure contractor adherence to Health, Safety, Environment, and Community standards,
- Perform field verifications, inspections and audits as it relates to contractor safety,
- Develop and implement contractor assurance activities,
- Support incident investigations, with site preferred root cause analysis, for contractor related incidents,
- Monitor and report on contractor safety performance,
- Complete analysis of contractor safety data to identify trends and provide recommendations to Management,
- Lead continuous improvement efforts in contractor management,
- Monitor effectiveness of contractor management systems,
- Other duties as assigned by the Health & Safety Manager.
Education & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in health & safety,
- 5+ years of experience with working with contractor management systems,
- Certificate or Diploma in Health & Safety would be an asset,
- Professional certification in Health & Safety would be an asset,
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency with programs such as Google Workspace,
- Experience in industrial settings or mining would be considered an asset,
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and have access to personal transportation,
- Demonstrate the eligibility to work in Canada.
Required Skills
- Be a leader in health and safety by demonstrating your commitment to health and safety every day,
- Self-starter with good organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills,
- Strong interpersonal skills,
- Excellent written and oral communication skills,
- Strong knowledge of Google Workspace,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
Working Conditions
- Team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
- Work includes manual dexterity to use desktop computers and peripheral devices,
- Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
- Occasional exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
- Work requires heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing,
- Work involves pushing, pulling, and moving equipment and/or supplies over 50 pounds,
- Job requires to be clean-shaven.
Rate of Pay
$125K - $138K/Annum
