Location
The role is offered to suitable candidates on an 8:6 FIFO roster out of Perth or 8:6 residential roster based in Newman.
About the Role
We are looking for a Mining Engineer to join our Newman Operations Production Scheduling team as a 2 Week Scheduler. This role is integral to the operational success and plays a key role with linking longer term strategies to execution. The Production Scheduling team sits within the wider Integrated Operations team of BHP Western Australian Iron Ore (WAIO).
The Production Scheduling team is responsible for generating mine schedules and designs across the 2 week to 2 year planning horizons. The successful candidate will fill the role of the 2-Weekly Scheduling Engineer within this team. The key responsibilities of the role will include:
- Delivering mine schedules and operations guidance to support the execution of 2 weekly schedule
- Providing input and insights to the longer term strategies for the mine plan
- Identify enabling requirements to ensure plans are executable
- Working alongside operational teams to enable optimised mining outcomes
- Identifying improvement opportunities through seeking customer feedback and reconciliation routines to continue to optimise the way we work
All production scheduling team members are expected to reflect the company values in their work and are responsible for ensuring long term value for Newman Operations:
- Ensuring that development is aligned with the long-term mine strategy and that these are operationally achievable;
- Identifying risk in the mine plans and designs proactively and effectively controlling these;
- Demonstrating industry-leading commitment to heritage, environment and safety and ensuring this forms the foundation of all our plans and designs;
- Sound engagement of key stakeholders both with regards to gathering plan inputs and the communication of plan outputs
- Continuously improving both efficiency and value through work planning practices and procedures, as well as identifying opportunities for efficiencies in the operation.

About You
We have a strong focus on finding individuals with the right values, leadership capability, and communication skills. Your interpersonal skills will foster strong working relationships across our Mining, Processing, Geoscience, Engineering and Resource Engineering teams. In addition to demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude.
The successful candidate will have;
- Tertiary qualifications in Mine Engineering or other related disciplines in Engineering or Geoscience (preferred)
- Resource industry and site based mining experience (2+ years)
- Working knowledge of mine scheduling software (APS, ATS or Deswik)
- Working knowledge of CAD software packages (such as Vulcan or Deswik)
