About The Role
We are looking to appoint an experienced
Health & Safety Advisor to support and deliver H&S services across Hope Downs 1 & 4. This is a great opportunity for an experienced and collaborative health and safety professional to be part of the Rio Tinto HSEC Team.
This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis, FIFO on a flexible 8 6 | 4 3 roster that will cover both Hope Downs 1 and Hope Downs 4 as required.
Reporting to the Superintendent Health & Safety, you will
- Developing and providing routine H&S information (e.g. safety statistics, incident information, risk analysis, educational material) to operational leaders.
- Provide Health and Safety coverage across both Hope Downs 1 & 4.
- Assist in facilitating incident investigations, risk assessments, and upskilling initiatives.
- Support high-risk activities, such as shutdowns.
- Assist frontline leaders in developing and mentoring Health & Safety Representatives.
- Analyse data and provide insights to guide recommendations for reducing risk exposure, with a focus on critical control effectiveness.
- Advise operational leaders and support assurance activities to maintain health and safety standards.
- Coordinate initiatives that promote workforce wellbeing and drive continuous improvement in Health and Safety.
What You’ll Bring
- Relevant health and safety qualification or demonstrated experience working in an operational health and safety role, coupled with a passion for, and sound knowledge of health and safety.
- Ability to support leaders with high-risk work activities e.g. shutdowns
- Experience with incident investigations and risk assessment techniques.
- High level of integrity and values-based decision making.
- Ability to work in a team and autonomously with strong communication, engagement and influencing skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of Rio Tinto Health and Safety systems, HSEC Standards, and key risk management and assurance processes is desirable.
- Excellent computer literacy including use of various reporting systems.
- Adaptability and flexibility to move across Hope Downs 1 & 4 and adjust panels to ensure operational coverage and support is maintained.
- An ability to work in a fast-paced environment supporting multiple stakeholder groups with strong problem-solving skills.
- Qualifications in H&S and/or commensurate experience in a similar role is desirable.

Where you’ll be working
This role will work across both Hope Downs 1 and Hope Downs 4 as required.
