New Afton Mine
Situated 10 kilometers west of picturesque Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. About The Role
Schedule: 5x2, Monday - Friday (8h) or 4x3, Monday - Thursday (10h)
Position Reports To: Energy Coordinator
Position Overview: We currently have an exciting opportunity for a student to join the New Afton team for an 8-month or 12-month work term commencing in May 2025. This position will provide support to our Energy and GHG Management Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with contractors and New Afton Electrical personnel to verify energy metering is operational and that the virtual meters are correct.
- Update energy monitoring system drawings as required.
- Work in conjunction with New Afton Innovation and Electrical Teams on ensuring that the electrical infra-structure and energy monitoring to support underground battery electric vehicles is operational.
- Coordination of employee awareness events relating to energy management and efficiency at New Afton.
- Support with the energy management system as required.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in a 3rd or 4th year University engineering program in electrical, mechanical or mining engineering
- Excellent technical, computer and inter-personal skills
- Work experience in copper concentrating or similar processing facility and experience in an energy management / energy efficiency / engineering related field would be considered an asset
- Basic programming experience
- Experience working with tables, SQL data bases, MS Access, etc. would be considered an asset
- Familiarity with the OSIsoft PI system would be considered an asset
- Experience in working with Microsoft power BI would be considered an asset
- Applicants must have access to personal transportation.
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
Anticipated salary for this position is $52,000.00 - $68,640.00. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
