New Afton Mine
Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. About The Role
Schedule: 7x7, Wednesday - Tuesday, Days Only
Duration: 12 Months
Position Reports To: Geotechnical Supervisor
Position Overview: The incumbent will be tasked with supporting all exploration activities under the direction of the Geotechnical Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Collecting geotechnical data such as recovery/RQD, magnetic susceptibility, rock strength, fracturing, joint alteration/infill
- Carrying field gear and samples in the field - collecting field data
- O rienting drill core
- Operating skid-steer plus handling and storing core boxes
- Assisting with GIS tasks such as georeferencing & data compilation
Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Valid drivers licence is required
- Previous experience doing geology related support work (1 year)
- Previous experience in collecting geotechnical data
- Previous experience orienting core
- Previous experience collecting and handling rock/core samples
- Field experience in difficult terrain
- Microsoft Office suite
- The successful candidate is physically fit for duty and has demonstrated the ability of being a contributing team member, demonstrate strong ethical attitude, initiative and able to manage required level of responsibility
Preference Given To Candidates With
- Experience with GIS software such as QGIS, Datamine Discover, ArcGIS
- Skid-steer experience
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $55,000 to $65,000. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
