About BHP Olympic Dam
One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The underground sub-level open stoping operation provides great opportunities to develop into a well-rounded mining professional.
This position is an 8:6 Olympic Dam based roster. Options include FIFO from Adelaide, DIDO from Regional SA, or Residential in Roxby Downs. We are open to discussing flexible working opportunities!
About the Role
Reporting to the Superintendent Production Planning and Services, the Mine Design Engineer provides support and inputs directly to the Mining Operation to meet the Mine Plan. This role offers a range of challenges associated with generating successful production designs. You will be responsible for the delivery of safe, executable plans.
In this role you will:
- Generate Drill & Blast and various Production designs to meet the 3-month rolling plan
- Assist with reviewing blast packets and analysing blasts for maximum ore recovery
- Collaborate with various Technical and Operational teams, in the formulation of Drill and Blast designs and stope planning activities
- Work with execution and technical teams on integrated improvement projects
- Review and validate the controls in place to ensure that designs for simultaneous activities support the safe production of stopes
- Conduct field leadership to ensure adherence to standards and identify gaps to process
- Monitor and maintain progress for all design work, using the relevant team tools
About You
If you are passionate about delivering industry best practice technical work in service of the front-line customer, the role of Mine Design Engineer could be your next step.
To be successful in the role you will have:
- Degree qualifications in Mining Engineering (or equivalent)
- Mining industry experience
- Broad understanding of the mining and processing industry
- The ability to quickly and constructively work within the Olympic Dam operations team
- Underground mine experience, preferably with experience in Sub-level Open Stoping methods
- Computer literacy with the latest mining software packages such as Deswik, and highly competent in Excel
- Ability to think laterally and visualise in 3D
- Ability to work productively and co-operatively aligning with the BHP charter values
- Ability to identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and cost
- Completion of practical underground time will be highly advantageous
