The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Production Metallurgist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7, 12-hour, day shift schedule.
Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Production Metallurgist
Location
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Metallurgy Superintendent, the Production Metallurgist will play a significant role in providing and promoting the development of technical expertise within the mill operations, as well as promoting Health and Safety in the workplace and compliance with company policies, working with the mill operations, maintenance, and electrical departments to ensure smooth and efficient process operation, and identifying and promoting continuous plant improvements to achieve and surpass metallurgical targets; and reduce operating costs.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and coaching to the operations and maintenance teams,
- Collaborate and maintain a strong interface with Operations and Maintenance regarding the day-to-day operations to meet production targets including the crushing circuit, troubleshooting and scheduling of critical equipment PMs for day-to-day operation,
- In collaboration with the operation and maintenance team build short interval controls and targets that will improve plant performance,
- Evaluate operating targets/controls, investigate performance variances, and make timely recommendations for corrective actions and improvements,
- Responsible for daily and monthly production reporting and reconciliation,
- Manage grinding media and reagent consumptions and inventories,
- Communicate with tailings team plant performance changers,
- Develop and review process control strategies and narratives,
- Identify and support or manage mill improvement projects,
- Participate in short and long-term forecasting,
- Support metallurgical trials, pilot plants and commissioning of new processing equipment,
- May have part-time supervisory responsibilities for technical subordinates,
- Perform other duties as required.
Education & Experience
- University degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited program,
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Metallurgy or related industrial field,
- Willingness to learn and adopt new production techniques, as well as tinkering with existing processes to optimize both production and costs,
- Excellent communication skills, both written, and oral,
- Excellent organizational and time management skills,
- Self-motivator, problem solver, and team player,
- Superior skill with Microsoft Excel and PI/RT duet is essential,
- A growth mindset & drive, to be open to new ideas to continuously improve and support our Plant, our Team & ourselves.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Working Conditions
- Environment is susceptible to the weather as a combination of office and fieldwork is required,
- Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
- Work will require to be clean-shaven,
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing.
Salary Range
$100K - $110K/ Annum.
