The greenfield melting facility will include a Consteel® Evolution EAF, two Ladle Metallurgy Furnaces and a twin Vacuum Tank Degasser for the production of high quality steel slabs that will feed the new “plate mill of the future”.

JSW Steel (USA) Inc. has selected Tenova, a company of the Techint Group specialized in innovative solutions for the metals and mining industries, as the supplier of the melt shop technology for the melt-and-manufacture contiguous plate and pipe facility in Baytown, TX. The greenfield melting facility will include a Consteel® Evolution EAF, two Ladle Metallurgy Furnaces and a twin Vacuum Tank Degasser for the production of high quality steel slabs that will feed the new “plate mill of the future”. Tenova will also design and supply the entire melt shop Material Handling System for the storage and handling of fluxes and ferro-alloys as well as DRI and HBI.

Tenova was recently awarded a new contract for Galvanizing Line N.3, for SSSC Southern Steel Sheet Co. Ltd. (SSSC) – a joint-venture of Vietnam Steel Corporation and foreign partners Sumitomo Corporation (Japan) and FIW Steel Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia). Using cold and hot rolled coils, the fully automated line will produce 150,000 t/y of high-quality galvanized coils. The line will also be equipped with the latest generations of air knife, skin pass mill and tension leveler equipment from Tenova Italimpianti.

The lines will start their production at the beginning of 2019.

The ultimate goal of this pilot project is to cover the entire value chain – from equipment supply to the finished product – creating a new model of factory based on 3D manufacturing, network infrastructure and digital processes accessible to several partners, and intensive training activities of the technical staff involved.

Tenova has recently been contracted by NLMK, one of the major Russian steel companies, for a 320 t/h walking beam furnace for the Hot Flat Shop HRS at their plant in Lipetsk, Russia.
