Toronto, January 27, 2014 – SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) to provide the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the PL1-3 Energy Optimization Project at EGA’s operating subsidiary Dubai Aluminium (DUBAL, known as EGA Jebel Ali) in the United Arab Emirates.
The contract will entail the upgrade of the existing original three potlines at the DUBAL smelter (which today has seven potlines). It will involve implementing EGA’s in-house developed D18+ technology by modifying existing equipment, as well as installing a new potline control system and transformer rectifier swing unit.
Work has already begun and the project is expected to conclude in 2017.
