SNC-Lavalin awarded EPCM contract by Stornoway Diamonds for Quebec’s first diamond project

Montreal, July 21, 2014 – SNC-Lavalin (TSX: SNC) has signed a contract with Stornoway Diamonds (Canada) Inc. to provide project management, detailed engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the Renard Diamond Project located in the James Bay region of Quebec, Canada. The capital cost related to SNC-Lavalin’s scope of services is estimated at over $425 million.

SNC-Lavalin will provide EPCM services for the mineral processing plant, a liquid natural gas (LNG) power plant and other on-site utilities, including service buildings, water treatment facilities and infrastructure.  SNC-Lavalin previously participated in the front-end engineering phase of the project which began in 2012.

Full mobilization of the Montreal-based project team has now commenced, and construction is scheduled to conclude by December 2016.  The team will incorporate specialized diamond processing and recovery expertise through the engagement of DRA Americas Inc. and AMEC Americas Ltd.

Ore production at Renard is expected to exceed 2.16 million tonnes per year, with an anticipated average diamond production of 1.6 million carats per year.
