Why mining is good for the economy and for a recovery

I have been busy at the job of mining.  Instead of writing something original, I post as follows an email I received which give numbers to prove what I have previously written:  mining is good for the US economy and more mining is essential if we are to pull out of current economic slumping.  In brief, to get the economy going again, we need to mine and make more.  It is as simple as that.

I wanted to touch base again to share some new information you may find useful. Last Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that, despite 9.1 percent unemployment nationwide, U.S. mining created 9,000 jobs last month, and has added 140,000 employees since October 2009. The report reinforces the fact that mining—including minerals mining—creates job opportunities and helps grow the economy.

The minerals produced by U.S. mining are used in a variety of applications in the technology, manufacturing, construction and automotive industries. What’s more, in 2010 alone minerals generated approximately $2.1 trillion of the U.S. economy—roughly 14 percent of GDP.

To further explain the economic importance of minerals mining in the United States, the National Mining Association has uploaded three new videos to our YouTube channel. These videos include highlights from our recent executive forum, “Addressing America’s 21st Century Minerals Needs,” held in June in Washington, D.C., in partnership with the Financial Times.

Please feel free to share the videos on your blog and other social media channels.
