The Responsible Mining Foundation (RMF) and IGF have announced their next webinar: Regulatory tools for gender equality in mining runs online on September 28.
Attaining gender equality has been a challenge for the mining industry. In mining companies and mining-affected communities, women are most often at a disadvantage compared to their male counterparts. Companies need to be proactive in counteracting potential biases to avoid unintended effects on women.
Yet, research shows that such gender-responsive measures, while implemented by some companies, are still far from standard practice in the industry. Therefore, governments in mining countries have a vital role to play in setting regulatory frameworks to ensure responsible practices on gender in mining.
This webinar will present the results of recent research on company practices and government actions on gender equality in mining.
Moderated by IGF’s Ege Tekinbas, speakers include Hermien Botes of Anglo American, Aubrey Menard of Oxfam America, Marie Paz RodrÃguez Mier, Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia, Minh On, Natural Resources Canada, and Jennifer Rietbergen-McCracken, RMF.
The session takes place via zoom at 9am EST, 1pm GMT September 28. Registration is here.
