The ZiG - short for Zimbabwe gold — is the nation’s sixth attempt at having a functioning local currency in the last 15 years.
According to a Zimbabwe Platinum (Zimplats) statement, the company currently has at least USD 33.8 million in tax liabilities.
In the fourth quarter ended June 30, Zimplats paid USD 23 million in direct and employee taxes.
Zimplats is a subsidiary of Impala Platinum and produced 182,100 ounces of platinum in FY 2012.
